The World Ahead

Home is behind, the world ahead,
and there are many paths to tread;
through shadow, to the edge of night,
until the stars are all alight.

Mist and shadow, cloud and shade,
all shall fade, all shall fade.

The World Ahead
January 27, 2005

For Ada.

So long the journey,
from meaningless shadow,
to form of night
and life renewed, redefined;
alight with truths
one only finds on life’s
more bitter trails.

Does it show on my cheek,
in the paths of care,
tear-traced, which
crease a youthful face?
For I know the pain
of striking out;
of treading paths,
bereft of fear,
when naught is left
to lose;
everything
to gain

~~~
All mist of doubt,
all shadow of loss,
all cloud and shade
of unbidden solitude;
by light of stars and Guardian
of wholly redeemed night,
shall fade.
"Home is ever so far away in the palm of your hand, and how to get there it is of no use to tell you. But you will get there; you must get there; you have to get there. Everybody who is not at home, has to go home."
